Privacy policy
1. An overview of data protection
General information
The following information will provide you with an easy to navigate overview of what will happen with your personal data when you visit this website or use the multi.dock app. The term “personal data” comprises all data that can be used to personally identify you.
Who is the responsible party for the recording of data on this website?
The data on this website is processed by the operator of the website, whose contact information is available under section “Information about the responsible party” in this Privacy Policy.
How do we record your data?
This website has no contact form, no account and no newsletter. Data is only recorded technically when you open a page or download the app: for instance your IP address, browser, operating system and the time of access. This happens automatically.
What are the purposes we use your data for?
To deliver the website without errors, to protect it from attacks and to count how often the app is downloaded, plus an anonymous reach count with Cloudflare Web Analytics. Only if you consent do we use Google Analytics to understand how the website is used.
What rights do you have as far as your information is concerned?
You have the right to receive information about the source, recipients, and purposes of your archived personal data at any time without having to pay a fee for such disclosures. You also have the right to demand that your data are rectified or eradicated. Moreover, you have the right to demand that the processing of your data be restricted under certain circumstances. Furthermore, you have the right to log a complaint with the competent supervising agency.
2. Hosting and Content Delivery Networks (CDN)
Hetzner
We are hosting this website and the app’s download at Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany (hereinafter referred to as Hetzner), in its data centre in Nuremberg, Germany. For details, please view the data privacy policy of Hetzner: https://www.hetzner.com/de/rechtliches/datenschutz.
We use Hetzner on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We have a legitimate interest in the most reliable depiction of our website possible.
The server is set up and maintained with Laravel Forge (Laravel Holdings Inc., USA). Forge manages the server and its deployments; the website’s traffic does not pass through it.
Data processing
We have concluded a data processing agreement (DPA) for the use of the above-mentioned service. This is a contract mandated by data privacy laws that guarantees that they process personal data of our website visitors only based on our instructions and in compliance with the GDPR.
Cloudflare
We use the “Cloudflare” service provided by Cloudflare Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. (hereinafter referred to as “Cloudflare”).
Cloudflare offers a content delivery network with DNS that is available worldwide. As a result, the information transfer that occurs between your browser and our website is technically routed via Cloudflare’s network. This enables Cloudflare to analyze data transactions between your browser and our website and to work as a filter between our servers and potentially malicious data traffic from the Internet. In this context, Cloudflare may also use cookies or other technologies deployed to recognize Internet users, which shall, however, only be used for the herein described purpose.
The use of Cloudflare is based on our legitimate interest in a provision of our website offerings that is as error free and secure as possible (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
We also use “Cloudflare Web Analytics” to measure the reach of our website. The script required for this is loaded on every page of our website. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures aggregated page views only, along with technical information such as referrer, browser and approximate region of origin. The service works without cookies and does not use any fingerprinting techniques. No profiles are created and visitors are not recognized across multiple page views.
The legal basis for the use of Cloudflare Web Analytics is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We have a legitimate interest in measuring the reach of our website without any reference to individual persons, in order to tailor our website to actual demand. As no cookies are set and no information is stored on or read from your terminal device, consent pursuant to Sec. 25(1) TDDDG is not required. The provider is likewise Cloudflare Inc.; the data processing agreement mentioned below also covers this service.
Data transmission to the US is based on the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) of the European Commission. Details can be found here: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
The company is certified in accordance with the “EU-US Data Privacy Framework” (DPF). The DPF is an agreement between the European Union and the US, which is intended to ensure compliance with European data protection standards for data processing in the US. Every company certified under the DPF is obliged to comply with these data protection standards. For more information, please contact the provider under the following link: https://www.dataprivacyframework.gov/s/participant-search/participant-detail?contact=true&id=a2zt0000000GnZKAA0&status=Active.
Data processing
We have concluded a data processing agreement (DPA) for the use of the above-mentioned service. This is a contract mandated by data privacy laws that guarantees that they process personal data of our website visitors only based on our instructions and in compliance with the GDPR.
3. General information and mandatory information
Data protection
The operators of this website and its pages take the protection of your personal data very seriously. Hence, we handle your personal data as confidential information and in compliance with the statutory data protection regulations and this Data Protection Declaration.
We herewith advise you that the transmission of data via the Internet (i.e., through e-mail communications) may be prone to security gaps. It is not possible to completely protect data against third-party access.
Information about the responsible party (referred to as the “controller” in the GDPR)
The data processing controller on this website is:
unlimited.studio GmbH
Am Alten Sudhaus 7 a
34119 Kassel
Phone: +49 561 98833921
E-mail: [email protected]
The controller is the natural person or legal entity that single-handedly or jointly with others makes decisions as to the purposes of and resources for the processing of personal data (e.g., names, e-mail addresses, etc.).
Storage duration
Unless a more specific storage period has been specified in this privacy policy, your personal data will remain with us until the purpose for which it was collected no longer applies. If you assert a justified request for deletion, your data will be deleted, unless we have other legally permissible reasons for storing your personal data (e.g., tax or commercial law retention periods); in the latter case, the deletion will take place after these reasons cease to apply.
General information on the legal basis for the data processing on this website
The data processing on this website is based on our legitimate interest according to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Information on the relevant legal basis in each individual case is provided in the following paragraphs of this privacy policy.
Recipients of personal data
We only disclose personal data to external parties if we are legally obligated to do so, if we have a legitimate interest in the disclosure pursuant to Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR, or if another legal basis permits the disclosure of this data. When using processors, we only disclose personal data on the basis of a valid contract on data processing.
Right to object to the collection of data in special cases (Art. 21 GDPR)
IN THE EVENT THAT DATA ARE PROCESSED ON THE BASIS OF ART. 6(1)(E) OR (F) GDPR, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO AT ANY TIME OBJECT TO THE PROCESSING OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA BASED ON GROUNDS ARISING FROM YOUR UNIQUE SITUATION. THIS ALSO APPLIES TO ANY PROFILING BASED ON THESE PROVISIONS. TO DETERMINE THE LEGAL BASIS, ON WHICH ANY PROCESSING OF DATA IS BASED, PLEASE CONSULT THIS DATA PROTECTION DECLARATION. IF YOU LOG AN OBJECTION, WE WILL NO LONGER PROCESS YOUR AFFECTED PERSONAL DATA, UNLESS WE ARE IN A POSITION TO PRESENT COMPELLING PROTECTION WORTHY GROUNDS FOR THE PROCESSING OF YOUR DATA, THAT OUTWEIGH YOUR INTERESTS, RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OR IF THE PURPOSE OF THE PROCESSING IS THE CLAIMING, EXERCISING OR DEFENCE OF LEGAL ENTITLEMENTS (OBJECTION PURSUANT TO ART. 21(1) GDPR).
Right to log a complaint with the competent supervisory agency
In the event of violations of the GDPR, data subjects are entitled to log a complaint with a supervisory agency, in particular in the member state where they usually maintain their domicile, place of work or at the place where the alleged violation occurred. The right to log a complaint is in effect regardless of any other administrative or court proceedings available as legal recourses.
Right to data portability
You have the right to have data that we process automatically on the basis of your consent or in fulfillment of a contract handed over to you or to a third party in a common, machine-readable format. If you should demand the direct transfer of the data to another controller, this will be done only if it is technically feasible.
Information about, rectification and eradication of data
Within the scope of the applicable statutory provisions, you have the right to demand information about your archived personal data, their source and recipients as well as the purpose of the processing of your data at any time. You may also have a right to have your data rectified or eradicated.
Right to demand processing restrictions
You have the right to demand the imposition of restrictions as far as the processing of your personal data is concerned. The right to demand restriction of processing applies in the following cases:
- In the event that you should dispute the correctness of your data archived by us, we will usually need some time to verify this claim. During the time that this investigation is ongoing, you have the right to demand that we restrict the processing of your personal data.
- If the processing of your personal data was/is conducted in an unlawful manner, you have the option to demand the restriction of the processing of your data instead of demanding the eradication of this data.
- If we do not need your personal data any longer and you need it to exercise, defend or claim legal entitlements, you have the right to demand the restriction of the processing of your personal data instead of its eradication.
- If you have raised an objection pursuant to Art. 21(1) GDPR, your rights and our rights will have to be weighed against each other. As long as it has not been determined whose interests prevail, you have the right to demand a restriction of the processing of your personal data.
If you have restricted the processing of your personal data, these data – with the exception of their archiving – may be processed only subject to your consent or to claim, exercise or defend legal entitlements or to protect the rights of other natural persons or legal entities or for important public interest reasons cited by the European Union or a member state of the EU.
SSL and/or TLS encryption
For security reasons, this website uses either an SSL or a TLS encryption program. You can recognize an encrypted connection by checking whether the address line of the browser switches from “http://” to “https://” and also by the appearance of the lock icon in the browser line.
4. Recording of data on this website
Server log files
The provider of this website automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser communicates to us automatically. The information comprises: the requested page, browser type and browser version, operating system, referrer URL, time of the request and IP address. This data is not merged with other data sources.
This data is recorded on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The operator of the website has a legitimate interest in the technically error free depiction and the optimization of the operator’s website. In order to achieve this, server log files must be recorded.
Download statistics
For each download of the multi.dock DMG, the server records the date, time, IP address, browser identifier and the requested file. From these entries we create anonymous daily counts (downloads per day and week). The raw entries, including the IP address, are deleted after 7 days at the latest.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: we have a legitimate interest in knowing how often the app is downloaded.
Cookies and local storage
Fonts, icons and images come from our own server. Cookies are small text files your browser stores on your device. This website sets one cookie of its own that stores your cookie settings. Google Analytics sets cookies only after you consent (see below). Cloudflare may set technically necessary cookies for security, as described above. The cookies page lists everything this website stores, with provider, purpose and lifetime.
When you follow a link from another page of this site to a section of the home page (such as the FAQ), your browser keeps the name of that section in its session storage for a moment, so the page can scroll there; it is removed right away and never sent to us. The session storage also notes whether you have already tried the demo in this session, so that interaction is counted only once; this entry is only read when you have consented to statistics. Session storage is cleared when you close the tab. The scroll note is technically necessary for the service you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG).
Consent management
We ask for your consent with a cookie banner of our own. It is part of this website and loads nothing from other servers. Your choice is stored in the cookie multidock_consent on your device: only the time and the categories you allowed. The cookie is kept for 12 months, after which we ask again. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with the button below.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR: we are legally obliged to obtain and document consent for cookies that are not strictly necessary. Storing the consent cookie itself is technically necessary (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG).
Google Analytics
This website uses functions of the web analysis service Google Analytics. The provider of this service is Google Ireland Limited (“Google”), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
Google Analytics enables the website operator to analyze the behavior patterns of website visitors. To that end, the website operator receives a variety of user data, such as pages accessed, time spent on the page, the utilized operating system and the user’s origin. This data is assigned to the respective end device of the user. An assignment to a user-ID does not take place.
Furthermore, Google Analytics allows us to record clicks on the download button, switches of the language and the first interaction with the demo. Google Analytics uses various modeling approaches to augment the collected data sets and uses machine learning technologies in data analysis.
Google Analytics uses technologies that make the recognition of the user for the purpose of analyzing the user behavior patterns (e.g., cookies such as _ga and _ga_<ID>, stored for up to 2 years). The website use information recorded by Google is, as a rule transferred to a Google server in the United States, where it is stored. Google Analytics is only loaded after you have consented; before that, no connection to Google is made.
The use of these services occurs on the basis of your consent pursuant to Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG. You may revoke your consent at any time with “Change cookie settings” under Consent management above; we then delete the Google Analytics cookies on this website.
Data transmission to the US is based on the Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) of the European Commission. Details can be found here: https://business.safety.google/adscontrollerterms/sccs/.
For more information, please contact the provider under the following link: https://www.dataprivacyframework.gov/participant/5780.
IP addresses
Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. Google receives data from devices in the European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom through servers in those countries. There, only the approximate location (for example country and city) is derived from the IP address; the IP address is then discarded before the data is passed on to Google Analytics servers for further processing. On behalf of the operator of this website, Google uses this information to analyze your use of the website, to compile reports on website activities and to provide the operator with further services related to the use of the website.
Browser plug-in
You can prevent the recording and processing of your data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plugin available under the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.
For more information about the handling of user data by Google Analytics, please consult Google’s Data Privacy Declaration at: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl=en.
Contract data processing
We have executed a contract data processing agreement with Google and are implementing the stringent provisions of the German data protection agencies to the fullest when using Google Analytics.
Fonts
This website uses the Inter typeface, hosted on our own server. No connection to font providers such as Google is made.
5. The multi.dock app
multi.dock collects no data about you: no account, no analytics, no telemetry. Your Docks and settings stay on your Mac. The app only connects to other servers when you use a feature that needs it:
- Weather: the Weather widget fetches forecasts directly from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com). Open-Meteo receives your IP address and the place you chose; with Current Location, its coordinates.
- Stocks: the Stocks widget fetches prices directly from Yahoo Finance. Yahoo receives your IP address and the symbols you follow.
- Links and Now Playing: a link in the Dock loads the website’s icon from that website; Now Playing with Spotify loads the cover from Spotify’s servers.
These connections happen only while such a widget or link is in your Dock, go straight from your Mac to the provider and never via us.
Calendar, reminders and your location stay on your Mac; macOS asks for access first. The AI Usage widget reads Claude Code’s local files; connecting Claude Code for exact plan limits only changes Claude Code’s status line on your Mac. multi.dock sends none of this anywhere.
